4 Ways to Celebrate Men's Health Month

Jun 2, 2022

Did you know that June is National Men's Health Month? Every year during the month of June, the topic of men's health takes center stage and is celebrated throughout the globe with screenings, health fairs, and educational programs. This month is all about promoting healthy living for all the men and boys in our lives. There are countless ways to observe this important movement, but we will share four excellent ways to celebrate to get you started in this blog post.

Start a New Fitness Routine

Physical activity is an integral part of improving your health and the overall quality of your life. According to the CDC, more than 40% of men over 18 do not get enough aerobic exercise (1). Explore new activities you can try to get your body moving. Consider going for a swim, trying out rowing with one of our smooth water resistance rowing machines, or starting a new strength training routine. You can also get your family and friends involved by trying out a new sport or an outdoor activity.

Schedule Your Annual Physical

Encourage the men in your life to schedule a checkup every year. A recent study by the Cleveland Clinic found that only three out of five men get physicals annually (2). Even more surprising is that more than 40% of men only go to the doctor when they think they have a serious medical condition. Yet, regular checkups are crucial to healthy living. They play an essential role in preventing and catching many common health issues. Several important health screenings for problems such as prostate cancer and heart disease occur during your annual physical.

Equip Yourself With Knowledge

Take some time to learn something new. Knowing more about your health can help you make more informed decisions about the everyday choices that impact your wellbeing. Many healthcare organizations hold free educational events and health fairs where you can learn more about important topics from weight loss to lung cancer.

You can also take some time to research common conditions and health disparities that men often experience. Several health disparities are specific to men. For example, recent studies have found that men are more likely to experience mental health problems and are more likely to participate in unhealthy behaviors such as smoking than their counterparts (3).

Raise Awareness

The goal of Men's Health Month is to spread awareness about preventable health issues that impact the men in our lives. In addition, raising awareness helps promote healthy living and regular checkups that increase the early detection of serious conditions. You can help raise awareness by wearing blue for a day or sharing what you know with others in person and online. Sharing what you know with your friends and family can have a positive impact and could help them take steps to improve their health.
